Obtaining employment in Las Vegas can prove to be a lengthy process. Especially Casino and Healthcare jobs, which require extensive background checks, extremely accurate employment history, sometimes convoluted licensing procedures and the fact that almost every employer will not even meet you until and unless you have applied online, and passed their screening there. Add to that the drug testing, orientation, and credit check and you could be looking at a month or more from application to starting a job. Be prepared. Get all your work history in order. Have no address or employment gaps within the last 10 years without explanation. Follow all directions carefully. Thousands of people move to this valley every month, and the growing pains are obvious in many ways. A lot of services are sorely lacking because of the unchecked growth. There is always a need to hire bartenders, waitresses, and housekeepers, but with all the people flocking to Las Vegas, there is a dire need for teachers, police, doctors and nurses, as well as cable installers, sales people, and other jobs which you may not associate with the Resort area that is Clark County. Frequently, there are job fairs, which are very popular (though, honestly I don't know why). Before you go, check the list of employers. See if they have a web site where you can view available positions and apply online, because even at the job fair they will tell you that is the first step. Good Luck in your job search. |
